Bukasa is a densely populated community covering about one square mile. While roads around the village accommodate vehicles, most travel within the community is on foot or by boda boda (motorcycle).
Most families rent modest homes or business spaces, ranging from mud-and-bamboo structures with dirt floors to simple one- or two-room concrete units without indoor plumbing. Meals are prepared outdoors over charcoal fires. Limited utilities, poor sanitation, and heavy seasonal rains make everyday life especially challenging.
